Abstract
A dynamic logistics simulation model has been developed for the purpose of evaluating proposed plant configurations for achieving a doubling of meltshop capacity. The model reveals the logistical limitations of each layout and quantifies the associated production capacity losses relative to expansion targets. Recommendations are made for further improving the logistics of the preferred layout. Development of a logistics simulation model is a prudent investment for ensuring that plant expansion plans are capable of achieving targeted capacities and efficiencies prior to implementation.
